In this section you are introduced to a range of resources featuring African Music at the Centre for African Studies Basel. On the one hand the Centre has received a number of collections of CDs and LPs with popular music from Africa that will gradually be made accessible to our students and the general public. Students who would like to volunteer in creating a database on these media can do so as part of an voluntary internship (Praktikum).
On the other hand some of the institutions associated to the Centre have audio-collections of their own, among them the Basler Afrika Bibliographien. Mission 21 houses a collection of 900 shellac records which are not accessible to the public but are the object of a digitisation project run by Veit Arlt of the Centre for African Studies (see Music from the Archives).
