Save Tagore's!

Tagore's - the legendary independent jazz venue in Observatory, Cape Town is under threat! On 16 November 2013 the team behind Tagore's launched a crowdfunding campaign in a bid to raise USD 105'000 in a bid to save Tagore's by buying the building. Unfortunately the campaign ended on 15 January 2014 with just over 1% of the funding goal reached. Somehow the team behind Tagore's has managed to keep the venture going but is now looking for international support.

Many of the south african musicians who have performed in Basel and elsewhere in Switzerland such as Hilton Schilder, Mac McKenzie, Kyle Shepherd and Bokani Dyer perform regularly at Tagore's and cherish its unique atmosphere and creative spirit. Even the late Sathima Bea Benjamin made one of her last appearances at Tagore's.  Many international visitors have come to love this hangout.

And listen to the statements by artists captured in a beautiful video offered by film maker Sara de Gouveia:

The driving force behind the campaign:
This is a group of musicians, artists, patrons and role players at Tagore’s who came together at the eleventh hour to save Tagore’s from the threat of closures, among them: Sakhile Moleshe, Kevin Nair (founder), Leroy Jones-Hemmings, Jacques Sibomana, Marjo Kranenborg, Michelle Cruywagen, Terence Visagie, Dathini Mzayiya, Joanna Boothman, Khaya Witbooi, Unathi Sigenu and others. Their mission is to keep this venue in its historical home.

Your contribution will support the unique performance platform Tagore's offers musicians. Further, it will help to preserve Cape Town’s music heritage, thank you!
